Do I dare follow?
Why is it so hard?
Living with lies
Carrying the wounds.
I tell you the truth
As I stumble on
To a deeper life.
With the quiet whispers
Assailing my mind,
The call is clear,
The trumpet sound
And now this realization
I haven’t arrived,. but I’ve left.

I haven’t arrived, but I’ve left
And now this realization
As the trumpet sound.
The call is clear
Assailing my mind
With quiet whispers
To a deeper life.
As I stumble on,
I tell you the truth,
Carrying the wounds,
Living with lies
Why is it so hard?
Do I dare follow?

  3. Alan,

Your poem reflects life as we come across many situations, with the whispers of good and bad offering paths for us to choose..Sometimes we listen and make an error in judgement...Being human of course:)

  6. This is a fantastic backward poem. It really drives the point home, reversing the lines.

  7. Those paths strewn with lies and wounds but there are great rewards to be found along the way too.

  8. Alan, this is a powerful poem. It really is not a good place to be if one finds oneself living with lies. I think eventually they are always found out. Best to tell the truth to begin with, as hard as it is.

  12. It's always hard to take that first step and let go of hurtful things. Isn't it true that we never arrive we only leave to take the next step - we never stop but keep going. I loved that.

  13. Wow! You vividly highlight the torn spirit. I cannot imagine being trapped in that type of indecisiveness and divergent forces.
